Walking trails near Indianapolis
1. Indianapolis Canal Walk
The Indianapolis Canal Walk is a popular outdoor path that loops around the downtown Indy Canal in roughly 3 miles. Walking or biking the canal is a great way to enjoy the outdoors in downtown Indy, see some great architecture, and visit some great tourist attractions such as the Indiana Historical Society, the Indiana State Museum, and the Eiteljorg Museum. There are also bicycle and boat rental options available if you want to add more fun to your downtown Indianapolis Canal experience.
2. White River Rark To Monument Circle
Spend time and visit the attractions near the White River State Park and go east to further explore downtown Indianapolis. There are so many attractions near the park you could easily spend your whole day there. If you make it past the attractions by the park, the trail takes you towards the core of downtown Indy on the Cultural Trail and all the way to the Monument Circle which has one of the top architecure attractions in the city.
3. Circle City Industrial Complex to Mass Ave
The Circle City Industrial Complex sits on the north east corner of downtown Indianapolis. This is a fast developing area which connects to the Mass Ave strip which includes plenty of food options, bars, and plenty other entertainment options.
4. Broad Ripple Park to Indianapolis Arts Center
Discover Broad Ripple by walking from the park to the Indianapolis Arts Center. The trail includes unique local restaurants, coffee shops and bars. The trail also takes you on the Monon Trail which takes you through the art filled and nature filled town of Broad Ripple
5. Garfield Park to Fountain Square
Garfield Park is a unique park that includes an indoor/outdoor conservatory. The pleasant run trail connects you from Garfield Park to Fountain Square which is filled with various food and entertainment options.
6. Butler To Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park
Walking from Butler to the Virginia B Fairbanks Nature Park and Newfields Park is one of the serene and nature filled walking/biking experiences within Indianapolis. The walk starts from Butler on 52nd st. It continues along the canal towpath and takes you to multple options by the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
7. Fall Creek Park to Watkins Park
Walk or bike from Fall Creek Greenway Park and go west on the Fall Creek trail. If you prefer to bike, there is also a rental bike share station at Fall Creek Greenway Park. The park also has a nice size parking lot as well as a couple of basketball courts. As you head west on the trail, you will follow the Fall Creek River where you will run into some beautiful views and bridges. You will also get to see the Fall Creek neighbourhood which also includes Ivy Tech Community College. Further west you will end up at Watkins Park which is located near some great local businesses.
8. Riverside to 16 Tech
Walk/bike from Riverside to 16 Tech hub in downtown Indianapolis. Riverside park is as big as NYC Central park. Your starting point will offer many wonderful sites. The path to 16 tech goes along the white river trail. When you get to 16 tech, you will witness one of Indianapolis growing innovation hubs. There is also an amazing food mareket place with plenty of eating options.
